The Black Belt Journey
Everyone has the potential to become a Black Belt in Martial Arts, as well as a Black Belt in life.
With determination, commitment and qualified instruction by Zenshin Academy instructors, you can do it!
Children's Program
Little Dragons Program: 4 years to 6 years.
Tigers Program: 7 years to 11 years.
Lions Program: 12 years to 15 years.
We are very concerned with the well-being and education of our children. We understand that younger students have a shorter attention span. Our unique children's programs use interesting and enjoyable methods to keep the students attention and teach our young students skills that they can use for life.
We promote non-violent resolutions to conflict. Our methods help children to explore and understand conflict through role-play and other exercises. Students will gain confidence, self discipline and control as they learn how to act and react to the world around them.
Our young students are treated with respect and are taught to return the same respect to others.
We believe in praise, encouragement and positive reinforcement.
We teach students the value of making goals and working to meet them.
Structured for the mind set of the 4 years to 15 years age group. This program incorporates fun-filled drills as well as practical self-defence techniques adapted for this special age group.
Adult Programs
We offer adult programs for all levels of skill. We encourage the participation of women, men, children, parents and grandparents, because everyone can benefit from the study of Martial Arts. Our Black Belt Martial Arts School emphasizes discipline and the value of persisting until goals are reached. We believe in following a high standard of values to bring out the good in our students and increase the quality of life. Regular attendance of our special Adult Programs will result in stress reduction and improved health.
Reaching Goals and Objectives
To help students achieve their goals they will be tested regularly and their progress will be assessed by an instructor.
Achieving a Black Belt is a multi-year goal for most people. Along the way there are short-term objectives to advance in skill level.
Learning to set and achieve goals will help students become more successful in other areas of their lives as well.
Profile
Shihan Mervyn Nelis has been involved in the study of self defence systems for over 40 years. From an early teenage involvement in wrestling,boxing and ju jitsu, Shihan eventually underwent training in karate.
Shihan has traveled widely overseas updating his knowledge. He has also been involved in extensive security work as a crowd controller and security specialist instructor for many years.
In 2003 Shihan was inducted into the Australasian Hall of Fame & World Karate Union Hall of Fame, and in 2004 this prestigious organisation promoted Shihan to 7th Dan.
Shihan has also trained extensively in the Krav Maga Israeli Self Defence System and CDT Tactical Non-deadly Self Defence System.
Shihan teaches full time and holds a degree in Psychology and Social Anthropology.
